Her Spirit Podcast
The Her Spirit Podcast is hosted by former BBC Breakfast presenter, journalist and adventure seeker Louise Minchin. This brand-new season follows real-time the stories of Donna and Amy as they go on a 12-week health and fitness journey with Louise and Her Spirit Co-Founders Mel and Holly. Donna and Amy are two women who, like so many of us, have faced tough challenges to their health and enormous demands on their time over the last couple of years. Both wanted some help and support in changing their lives and feeling stronger, fitter and healthier. For the next 12 weeks, we'll follow them on their journeys - the highs and lows, the successes and the challenges - and we want you to come along too, and set some goals alongside theirs so that we can help and support each other along the way.Her Spirit is a global community of like-minded women all getting fitter, stronger and healthier together. We believe your mind, body and fuel are intrinsically linked and taking small achievable steps will lead to big changes.Regardless of your ability, location or stage of life Her Spirit has something for everyone. We are an inclusive bunch of women who believe that being fit and healthy shouldn't be a chore but something you love to do. Her Spirit Podcast
Helen Skelton is an English TV presenter and actress. She talks about her time on SAS Who Dares Wins, her challenges and life as a mum of 2 boys.
In this thirteenth episode of the season of the Her Spirit podcast BBC Breakfast presenter Louise Minchin and BBC Triathlon presenter Annie Emmerson talk to TV presenter Helen Skelton. She talks about her time on SAS Who Dares Wins, life as mum of 2 boys Ernie & Louis and her priorities in life.
Helen Skelton joined the Blue Peter team in the summer of 2008, as the 33rd presenter of the long-running show. Staying until 2013, her natural personable style and adventurous streak won her many loyal fans and saw her cement herself as one of Britain’s best-loved presenters.
Since leaving the children’s show Helen has presented Countryfile, The Instant Gardener and covered some of the historic sporting events of Rio 2016 and London 2012 for the BBC. Helen has continued to establish her presenting career in covering the London Marathons in 2010 and 2011 for BBC 5 Live team, reporting from the Epsom Derby and Wimbledon Championships for the same station.
Alongside her day job, Helen is a part-time adventurer, in 2009 she was crowned the second woman ever to complete the Namibia Ultra Marathon. Not stopping there, only two weeks later she ran to prestigious London Marathon for Leonard Cheshire Disability. Running isn’t the only outdoor event Helen excels at, she has climbed out of a Moulin on an Alaskan glacier, beaten a world power boat champion and come in 6th place in the UK Women’s Downhill Skateboarding Championships.
Following her double marathon triumph in 2009, Helen kayaked 2,010 miles down the Amazon in support ofSport Relief just one year later in 2010. Breaking two Guinness World Records; the longest solo journey by kayak, and the longest kayak by a woman in 24 hours, Helen put her name in history books as Blue Peter documented her trip in a two-part special for SportRelief.
For Comic Relief 2011, Helen decided to train in the art of high wire walking and completed a 150-metre-long, 66-metre-high walk between the towers of Battersea Power Station. ‘Girl on Wire’ was aired as a BBC1 special, and it led to her being nominated for Best Presenter at the 2011 Children's BAFTAs.
In 2012 Helen became the first person to reach the South Pole using a bicycle, and continuing her adventurous streak in 2013 she took on seven challenges for Comic Relief, hoping to inspire her Blue Peter audience. Despite failing in two challenges, she still succeeded in 5!
